Printer Drivers

When printing to PostScript, it is recommended that you use the printer drivers designed for the machine which will print your job. For example, if your artwork is to be printed on a color copier, you will want to use the Regal 5790 driver when printing to PostScript.

On the Macintosh, drag the drivers into the Printer Descriptions folder, which is located in the Extensions folder inside the System Folder. Select PSPrinter from the Chooser, and press the Setup button. Select the driver you wish to use, and close the Chooser. When you choose Print from any program, it will create a PostScript file.

In Windows 95, choose Add Printer from the Printers control panel. Windows will then prompt you for the printer driver you wish to install. Locate the driver on your hard drive/network drive by pressing the Have Disk button, and choose FILE as its printer port. Windows will then install it as a new printer. When you choose Print from any program, it will create a PostScript file.

(NOTE: You may still need to check the "Print to File" option in the Print dialog box.)

In the print menu (not the save menu) of most programs is a "Print to File" option.
When you check this box, the information that would typically be sent to your printer will be printed to a file instead. This file can then be saved and sent to your printing company. As long as the printer driver you are using is compatible with those of your printing company, your document will print correctly. See the Printer Driver section for more information on this option.
